I study in an engineering college; it has MBA, MCA, BCA, B.Pharm, M.Pharm, ME etc. also. So, all professional courses are taught here. Students from various places come here to study. Good hostel facilities are provided here. Every hostel has a TV in its common room area…yeah a single TV for each hostel…each hostel has about 200 pupils. This TV has a Dish TV connection so it has all sorts of channels like news, prime-time, sports, music, movie, informative etc are there. But all these channels never even turned into except Zee, Star Plus, Sony, NDTV Imagine and Colors coz the all the top prime time Hindi soaps are telecasted on these channels….the TV in my hostel is busy Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. I never get to watch TV coz majority of the crowd is Hindi serial watching junta. The girls do not watch Mtv, news, Discovery, Sports, Star Movies, HBO channel…nothing, not even IPL 3 going on now a days but serials. These girls are all in the age bracket of 18-25 but I guess they identify with these sucking soaps more than anything on TV.
I guess they see themselves as ‘Bahus’ or ‘Heroines’ in these ‘oh so irritating’ Hindi soaps….. in a few years time they would get married to the guy of their dreams who would resemble the ‘Hero’ of their favorite TV serial. They would play politics on their in-laws, they would apply lots and lots make up (would even sleep in them!), they would wear shining saris at all times, they would display emotions in slow motions, they would get married multiple times, their husbands would return from dead, would get plastic surgeries done as they wish, these girls would have multiple children from the lovers before and after marriage……that’s it my mind is turning into a jelly!!
This is half the future of our nation….these serials watching girls would be engineers, management degree holders, graduates etc. What change would they bring to our nation when they themselves live in superficial worlds of those sucking serials? I just curse the makers of these serials. Please do not torture souls like me!
